Success

by Karen Ruan, Executive Director

What does it take to be successful? Who defines success? How is success measured? Where is success found? When do you see success? Dictionary.com defines success as: The chievement of something desired, planned, or attempted: attributed their success in business to hard work.

The Foundation is success exemplified. Why? Because of the hard work from the dedicated people behind and in front of the scenes. Many know of the life changing programs the Foundation provides, but many do not know what it takes to make them so successful. It takes a staff of twenty, a diverse group of consultants, and numerous unselfish volunteers. It takes a team; and often it takes the grace of God. Each year we face stronger challenges to deliver services that will impact severe problems our youth struggle with – kids facing drug abuse – kids exposed to HIV – kids depressed – families torn apart – kids caught up in the revolving door of incarceration – kids desiring an out of reach higher education.

So how does the Foundation achieve what it attempts? It starts with a strong supportive board of directors, those unselfish volunteers I mentioned, it is held together by those twenty incredibly competent staff and supplemented by an experienced group of diverse consultants. Every role at the Foundation contributes to our success from Fund Development to Accounting to Research to Clinical, Mentoring, Education and Diversion services.

We raise the money, we account for the money and we spend the money to make our success. I wish there was enough room to feature all our fabulous volunteers and incredible consultants, but we are so vast that a page is not enough. However, I am proud to display the remarkable staff we have today at the Foundation.

Fund Development – Associate Director Nancy Garcia and Assistant Laura Huerto

Research & Development – Michelle Hammond

Accounting – Controller Bobby Esber

Clinical Services – Associate Director Nazly Restrepo, Therapists Juan Bonilla, Solomon Massin, Saida Cadena and Denise Mendoza, Case Managers Martha Veliz, Mariela Cadena, Bernice Sanchez and Erika Sanchez and Program Assistant Erica Munoz

Diversion, Education & Mentoring Services – Associate Director Martha Madrid, Health Educators Frances Torres, Bernice Sanchez and Erika Sanchez, Diversion Coordinator and Case Manager Robert Diaz and Mentor Coordinators Susana Espinoza and Elisa Briseno. Special recognition to the college interns that support staff services.

As for me I see success everyday at the Foundation. People desiring, planning, and attempting important objectives and admirable goals. People achieving is what I have the tremendous pleasure of working with. This impressive SUCCESSFUL team of people is what makes the Foundation what it is. And of course, it was built on those who came before and did the incredible work that is still sustained today. To the past, present and future Foundation people I say thank you for contributing to the Foundation’s SUCCESS!
