HERMANA PROJECT Educating Latinas; Healthier Choices |
|||||
The Hermana Project is an HIV Health Education and Risk Reduction program of the Orange County Bar Foundation, Inc., funded by the Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC). The program is an adaptation of SISTA, a DEBI Intervention program of the CDC, originally developed by and for African American women who are in a heterosexual relationship. OCBF has culturally tailored this program for Latinas.
A unique program which targets Latinas 15-26 years of age at high risk for HIV infection (incarcerated as well as non-incarcerated). The program offers a 6-week curriculum free of charge (see below). The two hour sessions are offered once-a-week in small group format. A sixth session focuses on the importance of HIV testing and incorporates community healthcare referral resources.
To make referrals, host a series of workshops or for further information please contact Health Educator Frances Torres at ext. 122 or via e-mail: ftorres@ocbarfoundation.org.
